A Social Security scam is making the rounds in our area, according to the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say callers are pretending to be from the Social Security Administration — and threatening threatening residents.
“Please do not fall for this scam,” warned Sheriff Julian Whittington. “I know people get nervous when they get these types of phone calls, especially when it comes to their social security. Scammers will typically contact our seniors, who often feel vulnerable, and I want to help them avoid becoming a victim of this fraud.”
Social Security says that if there is a problem with your benefits, they will mail you a letter, unless you have requested a call or have ongoing business with them.
The latest scam employs robocalls or live callers. Fraudsters pretend to be government employees and claim there is identity theft or another problem with a Social Security number, account,…
