During an interview with Dan Polletta on The Landscape podcast, by Crain’s Cleveland Business, Senator Portman discussed the Democrats’ proposed infrastructure bill and the economic implications of how to pay for it. Portman pointed out that not only does the bill include items not traditionally viewed as infrastructure, but that Democrats want to pay for the bill through tax increases – increases that are five times higher than the tax cuts passed in 2017, which Portman says would hurt American workers and make American companies uncompetitive globally.
