The global sukuk issuances in 2020 hit a record high of RM736.6b, says IIFM

MALAYSIA has maintained its leadership position in the global sukuk market in 2020 by commanding a market share of 45.1% of the global sukuk outstanding.
The International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM) wrote in its Annual Sukuk Report 2021 that the increased volumes have been driven by corporates with a 57.5% share of total issuance for the year.
The report showed that Malaysia had contributed a 45.4% market share of total global corporate issuance in 2020.
IIFM noted that the global sukuk issuances in 2020 hit a record high of US$174.6 billion (RM736.64 billion), an increase of 19.8% in sukuk issuances than in 2019.
