Illinois Secretary of State’s office warns against text ‘phishing’ scams | State and Regional

SPRINGFIELD ā€” Text messages and emails from groups posing as the Illinois Secretary of State asking for personal information are scams and should be deleted.

The scams have been around for several months, but a new round of texts and emails has been going out recently.

11 people rescued from sinking boat in Chicago

One of the messages warns motorists’ driver’s licenses be revoked if people don’t click on a link to a website. Messages also contain vague references to “problems with your information.”

The texts ask for a person’s Social Security number.
