DPU NEWS RELEASE
Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) warn the community of a phone scam targeting customers. Several individuals have notified the Department that they received a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a DPU employee. The phone caller then states that the account is overdue and that the customer needs to provide a social security number and a credit card number, otherwise the utility services will be terminated.
Department officials indicate that anyone who receives a suspicious call should not provide personal information over the phone, such as a social security number, an account number, or a credit card number. Rather, individuals should hang up and contact the Customer Care Center at (505) 662-8333.
