Formatt-Hitech’s Firecrest ND filters are some of the best on the market, with natural IR filtering properties. Now the company has announced some ultra slim versions of the glass.
At half the thickness of standard Firecrest filters, the new 4×5.65 NDs are only 2mm thick and have been designed for situations where you really need to keep the weight down, such as on a drone, Steadicam, or gimbal. The filters also facilitate having a much lighter camera setup in general, for example when you might want to keep a handheld rig as light as possible, such as all the time.
The company claims that the quality of filtration is exactly the same as the thicker standard 4mm models, and the work very well with lightweight matte boxes such as the Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom. For other matte boxes you’ll need a dedicated 2mm filter tray, which can be purchased from Formatt.
