It said a new GB type approval system is currently being built and should be ready by the summer.
The NBRA said: “In a letter in response to an enquiry made on behalf of NBRA, the DfT has confirmed the new EU legislation regarding Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) is scheduled to apply to new vehicle types in the EU from July 2022 and all new registrations from 2024.
“The DfT said it is considering new vehicle technologies, including ISA, to aid road safety.
“New road technologies are currently under consideration whether these technologies should be compulsory in new vehicles sold in the UK and which vehicle’ categories they should apply to once a new ‘GB type approval scheme’ is in place.
