The latest machine out of Europe promises good looks, potent performance and hi-tech features at a reasonable price.
Alfa Romeo has revealed its first-ever electrified model, the Tonale. Though due to go on sale in Europe in the middle of this year, the good looking and hi-tech compact SUV isn’t won’t reach Australia until the fourth quarter of 2022 at the earliest.
Topping the Tonale line-up will be a plug-in hybrid. It’ll be both the most powerful and most fuel-efficient model in the range, Alfa Romeo says, as well as the only one with all-wheel drive.
In Europe, less costly front-wheel drive models will be powered by a new turbo 1.5-litre four with a 48-volt hybrid system and two power outputs, while a turbo 2.0-litre four will be sold in the US and Middle East.
Alfa Romeo Australia isn’t saying which versions of the Tonale will be imported, though Aussies’ appetite for performance makes the plug-in hybrid a near certainty.
